I believe the growth of Imperial Beach is at a critical crossroad in our community’s development. Thoughtful redevelopment with citizen input is good, but high priced over development without a clear plan that preserves the history and small town identity of IB is bad. I will work to promote forward thinking development strategies so hard-working people can still find affordable homes to live in and raise their families.
Trash & Litter
Trash and litter removal in our community must be addressed more proactively and consistently. My dogs and I have walked every inch of Imperial Beach, which has allowed me to take a block-by-block look into our community. While the beauty amazes me, I am sad to see the amount of trash strewn throughout our city. We are lucky to live in this slice of heaven we know and love as Imperial Beach but the City should strive harder to keep it clean. Cleaning our city will be a priority for me as Councilmember.
Protecting our coastline is a priority. As an avid surfer and the current Chair of Surfrider San Diego, I established the Northern Baja Surfrider Chapter to help identify when illegal sewage is being discharged from Mexico that directly affects our beaches and coastline. Beach protection will remain a passion and priority for me as a Councilmember.
With the growth of the Naval Coastal Campus directly north of Imperial Beach, our community will see a rapid influx of military families. The Coastal Campus will employ 4,000 permanently stationed service members. There is a significant amount of strategic planning and work to be done to successfully prepare the city for the direct impact that these members will have on our community and local businesses. Working with military families and veterans to ease their transition into our neighborhood as well as ease our redevelopment concerns will be an essential focus of mine.
Throughout my 24-year career as a Naval Officer, I have been civically engaged. In 2011, I retired from the Navy and completed a Graduate Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado.
In Imperial Beach, I am an active member of the Mayoral Advisory Committee and I was appointed by the County to serve on the Oversight Board of the Imperial Beach Redevelopment Agency Successor Agency for three years. I also served two terms as a Citizens Forum Board Member for the International Boundary and Water Commission.
Currently, I serve as the Anti-Submarine Test Director for Littoral Combat Ships. My reputation is that of a hard working collaborator with a unique ability to solve complex problems and make difficult decisions based on good common sense principles.
These skills and abilities will serve me well as your local Councilmember.
